A classical dance performance by Sangeet Natak Academy was held at Trung Vuong Theatre on 11 March. The event was one of the ongoing activities of the “Festival of India 2014’ in Viet Nam with an aim at promoting cultural links between the two countries.

Sangeet Natak, the National Academy of Music, Dance and Drama, was founded in 1952 for the promotion, preservation and dissemination of the performing arts of India. It was inaugurated on 28 January 1955 by the first President of India, Dr. Rajendra Prasad.

The classical dance recital introduced Nritya Rupa – a mosaic of Indian classical dance showcasing six major Indian dance traditions of Bharatanatyam, Kathak, Kathakali, Odissi, Manipuri and Chhau. Entrance to the performance was free.

The Festival, hosted by the Embassy of India in Viet Nam and the Ministry of Culture of India in coordination with the Vietnamese Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism and other agencies, is being held in three cities of Viet Nam: Ha Noi, Da Nang and Ho Chi Minh City, from 5 to 15 March.
