The Vice Chairman of the Da Nang People’s Committee, Mr. Phung Tan Viet, recently met with the Consul General of the Federal Republic of Germany in Ho Chi Minh City, Dr. Hans Dieter Stell. Mr. Viet said that he hoped that the Consul General would help to introduce enterprises from his country to the city in search of investment opportunities in the Da Nang Hi-tech Park and IT Park, which are strengths of Germany.
The city leader proposed that the two sides should cooperate to organise forums and workshops to promote bilateral investment and trade cooperation, which would help German businesses to get updated with all necessary information regarding the city’s open investment environment and policies.
Dr. Hans Dieter Stell said he was very happy with the success of the third Regional Nexus Workshop on “Integrated Resource Management in Asian Cities: The Urban Nexus Da Nang/Viet Nam” held in the city from 25 to 26 June. The German diplomat emphasised that his country wants to cooperate and support Da Nang in healthcare, education, fisheries and industry. He added that the Consulate General of the Republic of Germany in Ho Chi Minh City is willing to help bring experts and businesses from their country to work for, offer consulting advice and give training to research institutes and economic organisations in Da Nang.
It is reported that more than 20 enterprises in Da Nang are doing business with German partners, and there is only one German-invested project in the city. In 2013, bilateral turnover between Da Nang and Germany reached 26 million USD including exports from the city reaching 19.6 million USD. Da Nang exports garments, children’s toys, agricultural products, handicrafts and frozen seafood to Germany, whilst it imports machinery, chemicals and materials for production.
