Da Nang’s Non Nuoc Stone Sculpture Village, which is located at the foot of the Marble Mountains in Hoa Hai Ward, Ngu Hanh Son District, has been recently recognised as a national intangible cultural heritage by the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism.
To be recognised, the village needed to meet national criteria relating to its reflection of local and community cultural identity, and the showcasing of cultural diversity and human creativity which have been preserved from generation to generation. In addition, it had to prove a capability to maintain long-term survival, and be voluntarily nominated by the community that is willing to join in with efforts to preserve it.
There are about 500 carving establishments in the village, with around 3,000 carvers, and the village’s products are being sold in both domestic and foreign markets.
In an attempt to promote the conservation and development of the village, the village’s carving establishments will soon move to a dedicated production area at residential groups 52 and 53 in Ngu Hanh Son District’s Hoa Hai Ward. The new dedicated production area will be established on a site of 35 hectares at a cost of about 154 billion VND.
