Mr Masahiro Nakagawa said that as one of the three largest economic federations of Japan, the Kyukeiren takes an important role in boosting up the economic development of the whole region and Japan. The Senior Managing Director informed that, in addition to Ha Noi and Ho Chi Minh City, enterprises from the Kyukeiren show keen interest in Da Nang. He added that Da Nang and Kyushu region share many similarities, and this would be advantageous conditions for both sides to support each other and promote bilateral cooperation.
The Vice Chairman asked his Japanese visitors to show interest in investing in an industrial zone set up exclusively for small and medium-sized Japanese enterprises and a holiday resort for the elderly in accordance with Japanese standards. The city leader also said he hoped that Da Nang and the Kyushu region would enter into a cooperation agreement soon in order to boost bilateral relations.
The Kyushu region has an area of 42,180 km2, accounting for 11.2% of Japan’s total area, and a population of 13.3 million people, 10.6% of Japan’s total population.? The gross regional product of the Kyushu region in FY2005 was 392.9 billion U.S. dollars, which accounted for 8.6% of Japan’s gross domestic product (GDP). Comparing GDP of the Kyushu region with the GDP of countries throughout the world, Kyushu’s was more than that of Belgium, which ranked the 17th in the world.
