The Asia Injuries Prevention Foundation (AIPF) recently cooperated with the Da Nang Obstetrics, Gynecology and Pediatrics Hospital to organise the “Thien Nhan and Friends – Genital Reconstruction Surgery for Children” programme in Da Nang.
It is reported that Mr. Roberto De Castro, the famous Italian genital reconstruction surgeon, experts and medical practitioners will provide free surgery for 32 children with genital abnormalities caused by accidents or congenital deformities from Ha Noi, Da Nang and Ho Chi Minh City from 15 June to 15 July. In addition, they will provide free examinations for another 100 children. In Da Nang, the team of leading experts and medical practitioners from Italy will perform surgery on 9 children and examine 20 others.
AIPF’s Chairman, Mr. Greig Craft said that they have tried their utmost to call on support from donors to pay the surgery expenses for these children. Most notably, this year’s programme will spend part of its expenses to donate some surgical tools to the Da Nang Obstetrics, Gynecology and Pediatrics Hospital.
74 Vietnamese children with genital birth defects or injuries and disadvantaged family backgrounds have benefited from this programme over the past 4 years.
A scientific symposium to update surgical skills for genital reconstruction for children was also held in the city on 16 June.
