The Vice Chairman of the Da Nang People’s Committee, Mr. Phung Tan Viet, recently met with the Consul General of the Federal Republic of Germany in Ho Chi Minh City, Dr. Hans Dieter Stell. Mr. Viet said that he hoped that the Consul General would help to introduce enterprises from his country to the city in search of investment opportunities in the Da Nang Hi-tech Park and IT Park, which are strengths of Germany.

The Viet Nam-Japan Cultural Exchange and Food Festival 2014 took place at the park adjacent to the city’s new Administration Centre building from 15 to 16 July. The event aimed at intensifying and tightening the friendship between Viet Nam and Japan, and celebrating the launching of the new direct air route connecting Da Nang International Airport with Tokyo’s Narita Airport, which was inaugurated on 16 July.

The festival was held by the Da Nang Department of Foreign Affairs in cooperation with the Viet Nam-Japan Friendship Association, the Japanese Business Association in Da Nang, the Da Nang Events and Festivals Centre and Viet Nam Airlines.

The event featured a wide range of cultural activities of Viet Nam and Japan including music and dancing performances, tea ceremony, calligraphy, Ikebana flower arranging, Origami (paper folding art), Kirigami (paper cutting art), a cosplay contest, and manga comic books. Participants could even try on kimono and yukata (a casual light cotton kimono to be worn during summer in Japan). The festival also provided a space for Vietnamese and Japanese restaurants to introduce traditional dishes of the two countries. In addition, there were stands at the event for introducing investment activities of Japanese businesses already operating in Da Nang, and their recruitment requirements. Those who want to travel or study in Japan were able to access necessary information at the event.
